LOCAL NEWS - Old Fort Bay, Quebec - January 26, 2020
It was a great weekend of hockey and community togetherness in Old Fort this past weekend during their 2nd annual 4 on 4 tournament. In total, 4 teams of 8 players participated during the event that drew lots of local fans as well as volunteers within the community. The final game came down to Team 1 vs Team 2, Team 1 took it with a 4-3 win. The winning team consisted of the following players: Draper Griffin, Robbie Thomas, Chris Thomas, Landyn Buckle, Joey Spingle, Reiss Bilodeau, Kyle Fequet-Chevalier, Wyatt Roberts and Darryl Fequet as goalie. Congratulations on your win! The Old Fort Bay Sports and Leisure Committee had this to say about the event: "With another 4 on 4 in the books, we would like to thank all of our volunteers that made it possible, from the canteen to the door to the bar, to reffing and time keeping, flooding and just general rink maintenance. To Mitch Fequet for organizing the teams, schedules, rules and general support for the past two years. To our players and goalies for coming out and putting on a great time for everyone. To Jason Rogers for providing awesome entertainment. To Cordero Drudge for live streaming the majority of the hockey for everyone who couldn't make it. To Nellie's Grocery and their staff for all the deliveries and support over the years. And finally a thank you to everyone who came out to show their support! We greatly appreciate everything that each of you do to make this weekend such a great success!" Congratulations to the St. Augustine Raiders on their Division A Banner win against the Beothuks 3-1 and the St. Augustine Devils on their Division B Banner win against the Blanc-Sablon Chiefs 4-3 in overtime this weekend in Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon. It was a weekend of great hockey action at the Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon arena! Nine teams participated in the annual tournament this year from the Labrador Straits to Saint-Augustin: The L'anse au Loup Wolves, Beothuks, Blanc-Sablon Storm, Blanc-Sablon Chiefs, Legends, Bonne-Esperance Kings, St. Augustine Raiders, The Devils and the Pakuashipi Geese. Fans followed their teams to the Municipality of Blanc-Sablon to cheer them on, those who could not be there in person listened in on the radio or online at cfbsradio.net. Lots of amazing hockey plays were covered live by the CFBS hockey broadcast announcers; Jordan Mckinnon and Ryan Flynn with broadcast assistance provided by Steve Beaudoin, Guillaume Dumas and Ian Letemplier. All the games were covered this weekend from Friday at 5pm until Sunday evening at midnight. This was made possible by hockey business sponsors from within the province, the Lower North Shore as well as to Labrador/Newfoundland. A huge thank you from CFBS to all of our sponsors who supported the games on 89.9/93.1FM bringing the hockey games into the homes of our listeners. Congratulations to all teams who participated, you are all winners as the hockey excitement you provided this weekend was top notch!
